Kaysville, Utah – Our First Shake‑Down Trip

Wonderful campground close to home and Walmart to test out the camper features.

All trips

For our very first trip with the R‑Pod RP153, we chose Cherry Hill Campground and Water Park in Kaysville, Utah — just far enough from home to feel like a getaway, but close enough to make testing everything stress‑free. We stayed for four nights, and with the park mostly empty for the season, it gave us the perfect quiet environment to learn the ins and outs of our new trailer.

This trip was all about testing every feature: storage, layout, water systems, heating, shower space, and how we’d organize the things we use daily versus the things that only need to be accessible once in a while. It was a great chance to figure out our rhythm.

We did get one unexpected surprise — at 5:20 AM, the heater kicked on for the first time and immediately set off the fire alarm. Turns out, the furnace needs to burn off a bit of residue and dust the first time it runs. Once it cleared, everything worked perfectly, but it definitely woke us up faster than coffee.

The shower impressed us with plenty of room and solid water pressure. And with 30‑gallon tanks, we made it through the entire stay without needing to dump until the last day. For a small trailer, that felt like a win.

Cherry Hill itself is a great campground with a bonus: the water park was closed for the season, which meant the whole place was peaceful and quiet. During summer, it’s packed with slides, pools, a lazy river, mini golf, and even a pie shop — but during our visit, it felt like we had the place to ourselves.

This first trip gave us confidence in our setup, helped us dial in our storage system, and made us even more excited for the adventures ahead.
